The Myanmar Crisis Two Years on
Since the coup of February 2021, Myanmar’s political crisis has turned into a crisis of magnified proportions. The continuing atrocities have caused untold sufferings to the people in Myanmar as seen through the complex humanitarian problems that have unfolded, endangering their human security. The Myanmar crisis has become a very difficult regional issue for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at a time when it should be consolidating efforts towards its vision of an ASEAN political and security community (APSC). This webinar will examine current efforts in responding to the multifaceted crisis in Myanmar by addressing the following issues: 1) the challenges in implementing ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus; 2) providing humanitarian assistance to affected communities; and 3) identifying pathways to peacebuilding in Myanmar.
